Tenryu’s wife of 40 years, Makiyo Shimada has passed away.

Makiyo Shimada, wife of Genichiro Tenryu, passed away at the age of 65 on June 24th. Tokyo Sports has a write-up about Shimada’s passing and her death was announced via her eldest daughter on 6/26. She passed due to lung cancer.

The wake is scheduled for 6/27 with the funeral taking place the following day. She and Tenryu got married in September 1982.

In 2011, Makiyo battled breast cancer and in 2014, she dealt with heart failure. After being in and out of the hospital, she was back at venues and doing talk shows. When it was discovered that she had lung cancer, she was treated with radiotherapy in addition to anti-cancer drugs, but due to her health issues, the treatment did not proceed as intended to avoid putting her heart through that. She would end up being in and out of the hospital.

On Mother’s Day this year, she celebrated with her family but her symptoms grew worse and wanted to go back to hospital. She was transferred to hospice care on June 9th and that is where she remained until her passing.

POST Wrestling would like to send our condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Makiyo Shimada.
