AEW Dynamite – “Fyter Fest, Week 1”

Commentary: Excalibur, Taz & Tony Schiavone
AEW TNT Championship: Wardlow (c) vs. Orange Cassidy (w/ Trent Beretta & Chuck Taylor)
There is an insert where the Best Friends say they got manager’s licenses for this match and will cheat to help Orange Cassidy win and he says he doesn’t care. Cassidy goes to put his hands in his pocket right away, but Wardlow pulls them out and tears the pockets out of the pants. Wardlow pulls his straps down, but Cassidy puts them back up, tries a DDT but Wardlow stops him and tries to go for the powerbomb right away, but Cassidy slips out, hits a headscissors but Wardlow lands right on his feet. Trent Beretta gets right on the apron and starts playing with the turnbuckle as Chuck Taylor throws in a chainsaw that Bryce Remsburg gives right back and ejects the Best Friends to the back. Cassidy uses that distraction to try an Orange Punch, but Wardlow blocks it as Cassidys go right into his kicks. Wardlow ends up on the outside where he catches Cassidy’s suicide dive attempt as they go back and forth and Wardlow blocks getting tossed into the ring post followed by backing off from Wardlow as they go around the ring. Wardlow finds Danhausen under the ring who tries to curse him, but stops short as Cassidy runs in with an Orange Punch. They go into the ring where Cassidy tries another one, but gets caught and tossed to the outside with a belly-to-belly suplex as they go to picture-in-picture.
When we come back, Cassidy has Wardlow in the corner where he slams his head into the turnbuckle followed by a diving crossbody attempt that Wardlow catches, but Cassidy slips down and hits a chop block. Cassidy takes control and hits a pair of DDT’s for a one count. Wardlow comes back and hits the F10 and gets a two-count with his foot on Cassidy’s chest. Wardlow goes for the powerbomb, but Cassidy punches his way out and hits a head scissors sending Wardlow to the outside where he hits him with the tope suicida, sending Wardlow into the post a couple of times, sends him back inside, and tries a diving DDT. Wardlow catches him and tries a suplex, which Cassidy turns into the Stundog Millionaire, followed by the Orange Punch and the Beach Break, but Wardlow kicks out at two. Wardlow blocks another Orange Punch and hits a powerbomb for the pin and the win.
Winner: Wardlow by pinfall at 11:37, to retain
Wardlow picks up Cassidy after the match and fist bumps him.

Barbed Wire Everywhere
Chris Jericho comes to the ring in a suit, but is all alone. Jericho says he stands out here tonight not as the Sports Entertainer, the Wizard of the Rockstar, but as the Living Legend and Eddie Kingston’s superior. Jericho says Kingston is not a liar but is confused as he challenges him to a barbed wire everywhere match. Jericho says being friends with Kingston is a worse curse than anything Danhausen can do and mentions what he did to Ortiz, Santana, Bryan Danielson (as we don’t know when he’s coming back), and Ruby Soho. Jericho says the reason why she has a mangled hand is because she’s ‘her Ruby’ and he needs to take better care of his chicks. Jericho asks how many matches Kingston has had and won, as Jericho says he won the very first barbed wire match in Canadian history at 22 years old and he tasted the sweet sting of mother barbed wire’s bite and he felt pleasure. Jericho brings up his movie star good looks but next week Kingston will be facing ‘The Pain Maker’ who is undefeated in AEW. Jericho says if Kingston wants blood he will have a flood of Kingston’s blood so large that every animal on board of Noah’s Ark will be jealous. Jericho ends it by calling Kingston, not a liar but a loser.
When we come back from commercials, we cut to Eddie Kingston who is backstage with Ortiz and Ruby Soho and says it doesn’t matter if Jericho will bring the Pain Maker, because he will pay with every ounce of his blood and he will hurt him and enjoy it.
AEW Interim World Championship Eliminator Match: Jon Moxley vs. Konosuke Takeshita
William Regal joins commentary for this match that they say Jon Moxley asked for after being impressed with Konosuke Takeshita lately as they mention Takeshita put in a mouthpiece for this match, which he usually doesn’t do. They lock up right away, then transition into headlocks and shoulder blocks trying to take each other down. Moxley stops it with a chop and takes Takeshita down. Moxley takes control hitting a lariat and a piledriver for a two. They go back and forth on the apron with a forearm exchange before Takeshita hits a German Suplex. They fight a bit on the outside, but Moxley kicks Takeshita off the apron as he tries to get back in as they go to picture-in-picture.
When we come back, we see Takeshita is bleeding as Moxley hits him with a German Suplex. Takeshita comes back with a leaping clothesline. They go back and forth in the corners before Takeshita hits a brainbuster for a two count. Moxley puts his knees up as Takeshita dives off the top rope and puts in a sleeper hold that he turns into a cross armbreaker. Moxley heads to the outside where Takeshita dives onto him as the crowd chants ‘Holy Shit’. Takeshita follows with a frog splash but Moxley kicks out at two. They go back and forth before Takeshita a Blue Thunder Bomb, as they are both laid out. Moxley comes back with the Paradigm Shift followed by elbows and a Death Rider attempt, but Takeshita escapes with a rolling elbow strike and a German Suplex, but the crowd boos. Moxley headbutts himself out of another suplex attempt and hits the Death Rider, followed by the elbow strikes again, puts on the Bulldog Choke and Takeshita taps out.
Winner: Jon Moxley by submission at 13:14
Taking Yours
We see a video from the House of Black where they talk about Darby Allin opposing them as Brody King says he didn’t need Allin’s praise and he doesn’t need anything from him and for years he watched him ascend but now he’s getting his by taking Allin’s. Excalibur brings up how Brody King attacked Darby Allin at a promotion event this weekend.
Average At Best
Christian Cage and his turtleneck come out, followed by Luchasaurus. Cage has a mic and says there is something he finds something extremely annoying about the Varsity Blonds who are in the ring, as Griff Garrison is dressed to wrestle. Cage says just like Jungle Boy, Brian Pillman Jr. had a father but his father was ‘average at best’. Cage brings up how Pillman would be ashamed of his son and shows a picture of Griff Garrison and says he’s annoyed by it as it reminds him of Jungle Boy, in which he asks Luchasaurus as they head to the ring.
Luchasaurus (w/ Christian Cage) vs. Griff Garrison (w/ Brian Pillman Jr.)
Luchasaurus goes right after Griff Garrison and hits a German Suplex, sending Garrison to the outside. Luchasaurus sends him inside and hits a chokeslam as Christian Cage asks for one more. Luchasaurus hits a second one followed by his Snare Trap with the nerve hold that he calls the Tar Pit as Garrison taps out.
Winner: Luchasaurus by submission at 1:28
Luchasaurus sends Garrison to the outside and sets up the table, but Pillman tries to stop him. Luchasaurus hits him with a headbutt and stacks Pillman on the table and chokeslams Garrison on top of him twice, the second time breaking the table.
How High is the Shark Cage
Tony Schiavone is backstage with Daniel Garcia, Matt Menard and Angelo Parker and brings up how they will be in a shark cage above the ring in the Barbed Wire Everywhere match. Parker asks how high they will be and Menard says that Kingston’s partners should be in the cage also. Garcia brings up Wheeler Yuta and says at ROH Death Before Dishonor he will take the Pure Championship from him.
All Out in Chicago
They officially announce that AEW All Out will be at the Now Arena at the Hoffman Estates in Chicago on Sunday, September 4th. The preceding Dynamite on August 31st and Rampage on September 2nd will also be in the same venue with tickets going on sale this Friday.
Spooky Perverts
Tony Schiavone is backstage with ‘Hangman’ Adam Page and brings up how he was eliminated in the Royal Rampage by Brody King. Page says he’s upset as Alex Reynolds and John Silver come in and make a challenge to the House of Black calling them ‘spooky perverts’. Page tells them to have at it as they announce it for this Friday on Rampage.
Jim Ross comes out and joins the commentary table for the second hour.
Jake Hager vs. Claudio Castagnoli
William Regal comes to the stage and sends Claudio Castagnoli out before joining the commentary table again. As soon as the bell rings, Claudio hits an uppercut in the corner and tries the piledriver, but Hager gets out and blocks the giant swing, before getting kicked off the apron to the outside. The crowd chants ‘We the people’, which Claudio acknowledges. Claudio runs after Hager, who ducks and hits a clothesline, before sending it back inside where Hager tries an ankle lock that Claudio gets out of. Claudio hits a 619 for a two count. Claudio keeps Hager in the corner and hits a bulldog for a two count. Hager takes Claudio off the top rope with a double leg and then takes it to the corner as we go to picture-in-picture.
When we come back, they are still going at it, as they head to the outside where Claudio hits an uppercut to Hager who’s in the corner. Inside, Claudio hits a diving crossbody for a two. Claudio follows with the Giant Swing into a Scorpion Death Lock but Angelo Parker and Matt Menard run to the ring, distracting Claudio as Hager gets out and hits a uranage for a two count. Claudio hits a back suplex into the Scorpion Death Lock again, but Parker gets on the apron breaking it up again. Claudio hits the pop-up uppercut followed by the Ricola Bomb for the pin and the win.
Winner: Claudio Castagnoli by pinfall at 11:30
Off the Hook
Lexy Nair is backstage with Hook and says with his undefeated record it’s safe to say a title shot might be in his future, but Hook says nothing and walks away.
Sandbagging
We see highlights from Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling this past Saturday where Miyu Yamashita defeated Thunder Rosa in an AEW Women’s Championship Eliminator Match. We go to Thunder Rosa and Toni Storm where Rosa says she was a little sad she didn’t get a win but Miyu is coming to America to get a title shot. Rosa says she is happy about ThunderStorm and they will take on anybody as Dr. Britt Baker DMD and Jamie Hayter walk in. Baker said she tried to stay away and give others shine, but they failed without her. Baker calls ThunderStorm a ‘natural disaster’ as Hayter says they know how to handle a ThunderStorm as Rebel comes in and hands Tony Schiavone a sandbag.
Serena Deeb vs. Anna Jay
They mention how they are in Anna Jay’s home state as she greets her family ringside. Right away they go to take each other down before Jay hits a Flatliner and a running neckbreaker. Deeb comes back with a sunset flip into a stretch hold, but Jay reverses into a two count. Jay tries the Queen Slayer, but Deeb gets into the ropes and snaps Jay’s neck down. Deeb hits a rolling neckbreaker for a two count as we go to picture-in-picture.
When we come back, Jay is in control and hits a spinning back kick in the corner followed by a Northern Lights suplex for a two. Deeb breaks out of a Queen Slayer and twists Jay around a bit and hits a back body drop, falling awkwardly in the process as Deeb puts on a submission, but Jay turns it into a two count. Deeb comes back with a dragon screw in the corner and goes for the leg, but Jay turns it into the Queen Slayer. Deeb gets on her feet and breaks out, and puts on the Serenity Lock as Jay taps out.
Winner: Serena Deeb by submission at 8:24
Deeb keeps the move on, as Mercedes Martinez runs out and breaks it up, sending Deeb to the outside where they have a stare-down ahead of their match at Death Before Dishonor.
Interim Baddie
Tony Schiavone is backstage with Stokely Hathaway and The Baddies where they say Kris Statlander and Athena will be having a match Friday. Jade Cargill tells Leila Grey to fetch her some water, but Stokely interrupts and says Grey is for the Baddies just like Wu-Tang is for the Children.

Tony Schiavone is with Anna Jay who has seemed to have suffered an injury from her match tonight as Tay Conti walks in and tells Jay if she would have been smarter and more evil she would get more television time.
AEW World Tag Team Championship Triple or Nothing Match: The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson) (c) (w/ Brandon Cutler) vs. Swerve in Our Glory (Keith Lee & Swerve Strickland) vs. Ricky Starks & Powerhouse Hobbs
Keith Lee and Matt Jackson start the match as the crowd chants for Lee. Matt dodges punches and a spinning kick from Lee and tags out to Nick Jackson. Lee tags out to Swerve Strickland, who takes Nick down and tries the Swerve Stomp, but Nick dodges it and runs the ropes with Swerve a bit, before they flip to the outside and drop kick each other as they get into each other’s face and head back inside the ring and run the ropes some more. Ricky Starks tags in as him and Nick Jackson both walk the ropes and meet each other in the middle and come crashing down as Nick tags out to Matt. Matt Jackson hits three Northern Lights Suplexes, before Swerve comes in and Matt hits a fourth one on both of them. Keith Lee tags in, as Matt goes to rush him, just for Powerhouse Hobbs to run in as him and Lee take Matt down with a double suplex before going back to face. Everybody else runs in and hits a bunch of offense until it’s finally just Matt and Swerve in the ring. Matt teases a super kick, but Ricky Starks tags himself in as him and Hobbs double team on Swerve including a dropkick from Starks as they go to picture-in-picture.
When we come back, the Young Bucks are double teaming Swerve who takes them both down with a dropkick before tagging in Lee. Everybody runs in again and hits a bunch of offense until Lee is the last man standing. Nick Jackson dives onto Lee on the outside who catches him and power bombs him into his brother. Lee and Nick go at it inside the ring, until Hobbs comes in and gets into a shoving exchange with Lee until they head to the top rope. Hobbs pushes Lee down and hits a big frog splash for a two. Hobbs puts Nick on his shoulders, where Starks walks the ropes and hits the cutter for a two. The Bucks and Starks hit superkicks on Lee, pose, before the Bucks take Starks down with a superkick and superkick Hobbs into Rick Knox taking him down. Matt Jackson takes a title belt and goes to hit Starks with it, but he super kicks him down and tries to use the title himself, before Swerve takes him out and takes the title. Swerve teases, possibly hitting Lee with it, but gets taken out by a low blow by Matt Jackson who uses the title on everybody and goes to pin Swerve, as Knox wakes up and counts to do. Bucks hit the BTE Trigger on Swerve as Matt goes for the pin, which Starks breaks up. Lee and Swerve double Matt and hit the Swerve Stomp as Swerve covers but that gets broken up by Starks and Hobbs. Hobbs hits spinebusters on everybody, before Starks and Swerve go at it, with Starks hitting the Spear that Nick Jackson breaks up. Lee catches Matt Jackson’s sneaker and takes them out with it, sending Hobbs to the outside as well. Starks attacks Lee, as Swerve moonsaults off the chest of Lee. Lee pounces Starks down, dives to the outside, as Swerve hits the Swerve Stomp on Starks for the pin and the win.
Winners: Swerve in Our Glory (Swerve Strickland & Keith Lee) by pinfall at 18:14, to become NEW AEW World Tag Team Champions
