John Carlan recalls promoting the WWE Network in 2012.

Prior to the WWE Network, the company had their ‘WWE Classics on Demand’ service, formerly known as ‘WWE 24/7 on Demand’.

The Network was formally introduced in 2014 and John Carlan, former WWE V.O.D. Director and Producer worked with the company from 1998-2020. He was interviewed by Jesse Collings and Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics and recounted promoting the Network in 2012, but was told that-that would not be happening.

We were actually running promos on our Classic shows promoting the [WWE] Network in 2012 and then having to pull them down and pull it off when they said, ‘Yeah, that’s not happening anymore.’ So we got bit by that as well.

John went on to comment about All Elite Wrestling and said he’s already ‘pitched’ his name out there to be involved if they introduce a streaming deal.

AEW’s doing a bang-up job too so it’s, you know, it’s all good. I’m just waiting for them to have some kind of a streaming situation and I’d love to — I’ve already pitched myself out there to be involved in that if that ever happens so, yeah.

In 2021, Peacock became the exclusive U.S. distributor of the WWE Network.
