AEW’s special ‘Quake by the Lake’ edition of Dynamite topped all cable programming on Wednesday.
The August 10th special from Minneapolis featuring an interim champion match averaged 972,000 viewers and approximately 430,000 (0.33) in the 18-49 demographic, according to Showbuzz Daily and Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics.
Despite a major championship match with several weeks of promotion, viewership only increased by four percent while the demo was up by three percent. This week’s show was lower than the July 27th episode that featured Bryan Danielson vs. Daniel Garcia in the main event with that episode averaging 976,000 and 436,000 in 18-49.
AEW Dynamite has been the top show on cable on its night of the week for seven of the past eight weeks.
This week’s show still topped all cable programming and was ahead of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (0.29) and Fox News programming for the top spots on Wednesday.
In the 18-49 demo, male viewers were equal to last week’s number while women in the key demo increased by nine percent.
Quake by the Lake did see a 15 percent decrease among adults 18-34.
The largest loss was among females 12-34 which dropped by 31 percent this week from 75,000 to 52,000. It was their lowest level among females 12-34 since June 15th.
Adults 35-49 were up by 17 percent and adults 50+ grew by 13 percent compared with last week’s numbers.
In Canada, Dynamite averaged 81,200 viewers and 43,000 in the 25-54 demographic and finished sixth among sports programming for the night. The numbers were down from 112,300 and 63,100 respectively last week and were the least-watched episode of Dynamite in Canada since June 22nd.
Dynamite was headlined by Jon Moxley retaining the AEW interim championship against Chris Jericho, which took up the final thirty minutes of the show and ended with the return of CM Punk from injury.
