** Newly crowned IMPACT World Tag Team Champion Matt Taven was the focus of a Golden Ring Collectibles virtual signing. Taven shared that his ‘Honor No More’ groupmate PCO has been wrestling with broken ribs.
He’s [PCO] got a couple broken ribs right now, legit so PCO, he — show some love for PCO, huh?
Trust me, he makes me cringe [with the bumps he takes]. I’m on his team. I watch it as closely as possible. I’m like, he can’t get back up from that… and he does and I almost hope that he doesn’t.
He [Doc Gallows] threw him off the hockey [structure] through a table. That’s what broke his ribs so and he wrestled — you’ll see him versus Heath [from the IMPACT tapings in Dallas] and he’s got broken ribs in that match so…
After reaching out to PCO directly for a comment on the injury, a representative of his, Bertrand Hébert, passed along the following note:
Wrestlers are never 100% but PCO is not working through anything out of the ordinary for him. As they say he’s not human.
** On an episode of ‘Rewind Recap Relive’, Nick Gage told the story of when he took his then-girlfriend, now-wife to meet Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque “back in the day” at a mall signing. Gage recalled being on the second floor of the mall and almost spitting on Levesque.
I took her [Nick’s wife] on a date one time and she was a big Triple H fan. So this is back in the day when wrestlers used to do the mall signings, you know, at the carts and stuff so I was on the second balcony and she was meeting Triple H and I was spitting and I almost hit Triple H with spit because I didn’t like him at all [Gage laughed].
In 2020, Nick was sidelined with a calf injury that required surgery. Nick detailed how that injury occurred:
I was supposed to wrestle JTG in a death match before I tore my calf muscles. Some promoter wanted to put a ring apron on, it was too big for the ring and ripped my calf muscles.
There was a three-way match involving Nick, New Jack and Matt Tremont that took place in 2017. Gage does not look back on it fondly and recalled being excited going into it. He said the match was not good and New Jack did not want to do anything. Gage had been hoping he’d get stabbed by Jack.
I wrestled New Jack… and I hated the match. I wrestled New Jack and [Matt] Tremont in a three-way and New Jack just didn’t wanna do anything. He didn’t want to call or nothing. But you know, who am I to sit there and freak out on a guy who’s done a lot of time? I grew up on the old school where you respect the older generation, the vets and stuff like that so, I just let it be but, when I got in the car driving to that thing, all I kept saying is, ‘I hope New Jack stabs me, I hope New Jack stabs me.’ That’s all I wanted to do was get stabbed by New Jack but, it didn’t happen. I just walked around and punched him in his face a million times.
Elsewhere during the conversation, Gage gave props to Matt Cardona for the death match they had at GCW Homecoming in 2021.
I mean, look at Matt Cardona. He never wrestled [a death match] in his life. He went out there and we had one of the best death matches… I don’t like the guy at all. I have to give him his respect, you know? He stood in there, I carved him up, I smashed him. Once I lost that match, that one really hurt. I kind of took some time off after that one.
** K & S WrestleFest hosted a virtual signing with Willow Nightingale as the featured guest. She was asked how she would react if the idea of being a ‘Baddie’ in AEW was presented to her. Nightingale said if that was the role assigned to her, she’d make the best of it but does not think her presentation aligns with The Baddies (Jade Cargill, Kiera Hogan, Red Velvet & Leila Grey).
I think there is a time and a place for me to show, maybe like, a more aggressive, a more rageful side of myself, right? Because at the end of the day, I’m a person who experiences the full range of human emotion. Happiness and gratitude aren’t the only things that I feel. I try to lead with that, but obviously that’s not realistic to 100 percent of the time present. Me, myself, how I envision myself presenting that is not necessarily something that I think would even align with The Baddies and how they present themselves. I mean, if that was my job to do, I would make the best of it of course, but I don’t know that it would be an authentic portrayal of myself.
Nightingale shared the ring with TBS Champion Jade Cargill on several occasions in AEW. She feels that Cargill being in the position she’s in makes a lot of sense, adding that Cargill is doing the work.
It was intimidating obviously [wrestling Jade Cargill]. Usually, I wrestle people who are smaller than me, but she is obviously very strong. So it was intimidating in that aspect. Also, she’s just so confident that that’s unshakeable. That’s not an angle that I can kind of shoot for. But I think for someone who has as little overall experience as she does, she is very hardworking, very promising and I think she’s… the position she’s in makes a lot of sense, you know? I think she’s putting her nose to the ground and doing the work.
** MLW’s Alex Kane was a guest on Straight Talk Wrestling. Kane revealed that he’s been pushing for independent talent Jordan Blade to join his ‘Bomaye Fight Club’ faction which consists of Myron Reed and Mr. Thomas.
I’ve been pushing for a young Jordan Blade to join the Bomaye Fight Club for a long time… I’m a shooter and she’s a shooter, we might as well have another shooter in the mix, in the arsenal. I always tell Court [Bauer] that my vision of the Bomaye Fight Club is to be able to dominate every division; tag team, heavyweight, openweight… and featherweight and any other belt that they decide to bring in, middleweight. If they bring in a women’s tag team, I wanna add another woman to the group. I wanna be able to dominate every division and also not have to do the weird break-up. Like, oh yeah, this person’s going on a singles run, gotta break up the Bomaye Fight Club. Like no, no. We stay together.
From November 2021 to June 2022, Kane was MLW National Openweight Champion. When he first won the title, he asked if he could defend it on the independent scene but was told by the powers that be that they did not want the belt to get mixed up in the indies.
No [there wasn’t a chance for me to defend MLW National Openweight Title on the indies]. That was the first question that I asked. They didn’t wanna get it mixed up in the independents. I have my own qualms about that but I mean, they tell me what to do and I do it so…
