Amidst all the chaos surrounding Sunday’s All Out event and backstage brawl, AEW Dynamite produced its highest demo audience in three months.
The September 7th episode from Buffalo averaged 1,035,000 viewers and approximately 496,000 (0.38) in the 18-49 demographic on TBS, per Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics and Showbuzz Daily.
It was Dynamite’s second-highest overall viewership since March and their strongest performance in the 18-49 demo since June 1st, which was the episode coming out of Double or Nothing at The Forum.
In the 18-49 demo, male viewership was up by 11% this week while females dropped 4%.
Adults 18-34 were flat with last week’s performance while adults 35-49 saw a 13.5% increase.
Dynamite ranked second among cable originals behind Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, which did 0.39 in the demo and 1.22 million viewers. Dynamite did top ESPN’s coverage of the U.S. Open Tennis tournament at 0.26.
In Canada, the show had a sizable spike averaging 131,800 viewers and 80,800 in the 25-54 demographic on TSN 2, which were its best figures in Canada since Blood & Guts on June 29th. The viewership figure was up 84% from last week and the demo figure was up from 34,600. Over the previous four episodes in Canada, Dynamite averaged 74,000 viewers, so they nearly doubled their four-week average this week.
Beyond coming off the pay-per-view, curiosity intensified with the details from Sunday’s brawl involving CM Punk, Ace Steel, The Young Bucks, and Kenny Omega that has led to suspensions and none of the performers appearing on Wednesday’s show. Both the AEW Championship and Trios Championship were announced as vacant by Tony Khan at the start of Wednesday’s show.
The show included the crowning of Death Triangle as the new Trios champions and the start of the AEW title tournament with Bryan Danielson defeating Hangman Page. The show was headlined by Buffalo’s Daniel Garcia submitting Wheeler Yuta to win the ROH Pure Championship.
