Shawn Spears gives his take on the situation involving CM Punk as it relates to AEW.
Since The Elite (Kenny Omega, Matt & Nick Jackson) returned to AEW at Full Gear, the crowds in attendance for that pay-per-view and the proceeding Dynamite have either voiced their displeasure or support of CM Punk.
The former AEW World Champion has not been with the company since the fallout from All Out where he was reportedly involved in a physical altercation with The Elite.
Fellow AEW talent Shawn Spears was asked about Punk’s situation as he was doing a virtual signing for K & S WrestleFest. Spears said it’s sad and wishes it did not happen. He jokingly added that Punk owes him a rematch from their bout that lasted under 15 seconds.
Sad. Overall, sad [Spears said about the CM Punk/AEW situation]. That’s what I think. Sad. Wish it didn’t happen.
That’s another thing too; I wasn’t there. I don’t have any first-hand knowledge. I read everything you guys read and I don’t believe everything I read so, sad overall.
It’s CM Punk… With his body of work, [that’s what] you come to expect [Spears referring to a comment about the positive impact Punk had on-screen]. He delivers quality. That’s what he does. That’s why it’s sad. Because he owes me a rematch, Punk, son of a b*tch.
In regards to Spears’ presentation, he said he’s not in control of when he’s put on TV. He stated that all he can do is stay ready so when the opportunity comes, he does not have to do much prep.
At the end of the day, you can only control what you can control. I think there is too many players and kind of real estate and maybe too many chefs in the kitchen? I don’t know. I can only do what I’m required to do when I’m required to do it. That’s all I can control. So I stay ready so I don’t have to get ready. That’s all I can do.
Spears returned to AEW for their debut in Canada. He was last in action for the company on October 13th.
