AEW Dynamite posted its lowest 18-49 audience in two years as it kicked off 2023 with a fourth-place finish on cable for the night.

The January 4th episode from Seattle averaged 864,000 viewers and approximately 336,000 (0.26) in the 18-49 demographic as it finished fourth among cable originals behind the NBA and SportsCenter on ESPN. (Data: Wrestlenomics and Showbuzz Daily).

It was Dynamite’s lowest audience in the key demo since January 6, 2021, episode that aired on TNT and the lowest in the history of the show on TBS. That was the day of the U.S. Capitol riot and featured Dynamite airing head-to-head with NXT.

The overall audience was only down by 1% from last week while the 18-49 audience declined 6% and was highlighted by a 15% decrease among women in the key demo.

In the 18-34 audience, the decline was 2%, which is due to females declining 27% this week while males in the demo grew 20%.

Adults 35-49 fell by 9% and adults over 50 were up by 2% this week.

The show aired against the NBA game between the Milwaukee Bucks and Toronto Raptors, which finished second on cable with 1,029,000 viewers and 0.36 in 18-49 on ESPN.

Dynamite beat MTV’s The Challenge, which averaged 521,000 viewers and 0.25 in the demo.

In Canada, the show averaged approximately 81,000 viewers and 44,000 in the 25-54 demographic on TSN 2 and did not finish among the top ten sports broadcasts on Wednesday in the country.

The debut for the promotion in Seattle included Darby Allin winning the TNT Championship against Samoa Joe in the main event and Bryan Danielson returning to his home state for a match with Tony Nese.

The show returns to the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California with a loaded show including the final match of the best-of-seven series between Death Triangle and The Elite in a ladder match.
