Vince McMahon wants as much as $9 billion for the sale of WWE, according to a report published on Friday.

Lucas Shaw of Bloomberg (registration required) reported the figure, based on unnamed sources who also claimed that offers had already been made for the company.

Amid ongoing talk of a sale, shares in WWE rose by almost 5% on Friday to $91.48.

The purported $9 billion asking price compares to a current market value of around $6.5 billion.

The latest speculation came after WWE’s chief executive officer Nick Khan gave an interview to CNBC following the company’s latest earnings report.

Khan stated that McMahon had made it clear he would be willing to step down and leave the company if it ensured a stronger return for investors if the company is acquired.
