SANADA wins 2023 New Japan Cup tournament, challenging for IWGP World Heavyweight Title at Sakura Genesis

SANADA departed Los Ingobernables de Japon, won the New Japan Cup and is getting his IWGP World Heavyweight Title shot on April 8th

In this year’s New Japan Cup tournament, SANADA bested Taichi, KENTA, Tetsuya Naito and Mark Davis to make it to the finals. The New Japan Cup final took place today and SANADA scored the win over David Finlay.

It is now official that on April 8th, SANADA is going to be taking on Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at Sakura Genesis. 

After SANADA bested Naito, he opted to leave Los Ingobernables de Japon and align with Taichi’s group, ‘Just 4 Guys’ which became ‘Just 5 Guys’ with the addition of SANADA. 

There are currently three championship matches set for Sakura Genesis: 

  • IWGP World Heavyweight Championship: Kazuchika Okada (c) vs. SANADA
  • IWGP Women’s Championship: Mercedes Moné (c) vs. TBA
  • IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship: Hiromu Takahashi (c) vs. Robbie Eagles
