Vince McMahon has admitted to “mistakes” in a highly generalized answer when questioned about how the past year would affect his legacy.
CNBC’s Scott Wapner asked the WWE Executive Chairman how he thought the past year’s events would affect his legacy and whether he had any regrets.
McMahon replied:
Well, let me just say that I’ve made mistakes obviously, both personally and professionally, throughout my 50-year career. I’ve owned up to every single one of them and then moved on.
I’m not sure about the legacy stuff. I’m not gonna write it. So I don’t know.
Wapner then brought up the fact that McMahon’s newest employee agreement grants him control over his own intellectual property and life story, and therefore, he could write his own story.
McMahon replied, “It is was it is.”
Last year, an investigation was launched by independent members of the WWE board of directors following the revelation of nearly $20 million in unrecorded expenses by McMahon, including multiple hush money payments regarding alleged sexual misconduct allegations.
That investigation was wound up in November 2022. In March this year, McMahon reimbursed WWE for the costs related to the investigation to the tune of $17.4 million.
