The former ROH World Champion had worked with WWE for over six years when he joined the promotion as a commentator in 2016. McGuinness began his tenure by calling the two-night WWE United Kingdom Championship tournament in early 2017 and would go on to be a commentator for NXT, 205 Live, and Main Event. After being furloughed during the pandemic, McGuiness returned to the company as a commentator for NXT UK until his release last October.
McGuinness retired from in-ring competition in 2011 and transitioned to an on-screen authority role and later as a commentator for Ring of Honor prior to joining WWE.
