On a December 2019 episode of NXT on USA Network, IYO SKY was scheduled for singles competition and while the cameras were on her, audio was picked up of an audience member shouting at IYO to ‘go back to China’. IYO’s response was, ‘I’m Japanese b*tch’.
That was brought up as D.S. Shin of Ring The Belle chatted with IYO and Dakota Kai at the WrestleMania 39 press junket. Both Kai and SKY reflected on what occurred:
Kai: Oh! Remember? NXT?
SKY: Oh yeah, I remember that, yeah.
Kai: That guy was being an asshole anyways. What are you doing? Get out of there. She was right to put you in your place bro.
SKY: We can’t judge anything like race, you know? Race, yeah.
