The tournament to crown the WWE World Heavyweight Champion will begin this Monday on Raw.

Triple H announced during Friday’s WWE Backlash press conference that matches will take place on this Monday’s episode of Raw in Jacksonville, Florida, and next week’s episode of SmackDown in Knoxville, Tennessee to determine who will become the World Heavyweight Champion.

Both shows will have a pair of triple-threat matches where the two winners will meet later that night. The winners coming out of Raw and SmackDown will meet at Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia on 5/27 to determine the World Heavyweight Champion.

This coincides with the new rosters for Raw and SmackDown going into effect beginning Monday after the draft. It was not explained why SmackDown talent is competing for a championship that has been designated for Raw.

The participants for the triple threat matches have yet to be announced.
