Becky Lynch thinks winning WWE Women’s Tag Titles with Lita was ‘never meant to be the plan’

Lynch speaks about the experience of winning the Tag Titles with someone she idolized.

To set up the ongoing storyline between Becky Lynch and WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus, Trish was inserted in the middle of Lynch and fellow Hall of Famer Lita’s tag run. Lita and Lynch went on to capture the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles

That period of Lynch’s career was reflected on while she was on Mark Andrews’s My Love Letter to Wrestling podcast. Lynch said she doesn’t think the original plan for where they were going with this storyline included a tag title run. She described it as a side road being taken.

Lynch went on to state that over the years, Lita has become a friend and a mentor. Speaking about her on-screen character, Becky feels ‘The Man’ does not know how to interact with other babyfaces because she’s been burned too many times and when looking back on her 2022 program with Lita, it’s one that Lynch is proud of.

Well, it was all a bit crazy (winning Women’s Tag Titles with Lita). When that was decided, I don’t think that was never meant to be the plan and then they just took a side road and decided that would be the best outcome and I think what was so great going into that match was that nobody knew what was going to happen and people had ideas and this could happen and then we could go this way or we could go that way and there was so many ways we could go and then to be standing side by side with the woman that inspired you to get into this in the first place when we’re talking about that grassroots thing of being back and I was coming down with my dyed red hair and my baggy pants and wearing my thong outside my clothes and trying to look like Lita and here I was standing side by side as an equal about to go capture the tag titles. If you’re telling your teenage self that’s gonna happen when you’re older, teenage self would slap you across the face and tell you to get realistic, you know what I mean? So yeah, it was really awesome but she’s over the years become such a great friend and a mentor and I think because she was that misfit, that little rock and roll grunger that had big dreams and she recognized that in me, that it didn’t necessarily fit the mold but I had that love for the business and I think we’ve kind of been kindred spirits in that way. Sometimes as a babyface, I almost don’t know how to interact with other babyfaces because The Man is so untrusting of everybody because she’s been burned so many times that sometimes I’m like… hello friend? (she laughed) I feel very awkward in that setting but if I was going to have a tag team partner, you couldn’t ask for better. But even having gotten to do the story with her last year, as short as it was, it was one of the stories in wrestling that I’ve been most proud of and one of the matches I’m most proud of so now I’ve had a lot of history with the person who inspired me the most, the woman who inspired me the most which is great.

When it comes to what’s left that Lynch wants to accomplish, she said she wants to win Money in the Bank and get a singles match with Beth Phoenix.

I do want to win the Money in the Bank briefcase before it’s all said and done. Before it’s all said and done, I wanna win the Money in the Bank briefcase and also wrestle Beth Phoenix. I’ve been trying to get her for years. She’s been dodging me.

Lynch returned to WWE TV on the 5/8 Raw and took out Trish Stratus.
