The project is in the writing stage.

Times of India published a story about Kavita Devi, who is the first Indian female wrestler to compete for WWE. A biopic about Devi is in the works and the rights have been acquired by producer Pretty Aggarwal. Co-producing the film is Zeeshan Ahmad.

Aggarwal gave a comment to the media about his decision to produce a biopic about Devi and here’s what he had to say:

Her whole life has been very inspiring. In every stage of her life, she showed a lot of courage to fight all the odds and proved her ability to win. WWE has always been considered as a male bastion. Later, many women from around the world started taking interest in it and professionally started participating in it. But still there was no female representation from India. But Kavita Devi proved her mettle and showed that Indian women are no less. She jumped into the WWE ring with all her might. Notably, after marriage, she wanted to quit playing, but with her husband’s support she continued playing post her marriage and brought many laurels for India.

The film will also put a spotlight on how Kavita’s big brother helped shape her career.

Zeeshan Ahmad informed the outlet that the writing of the film is in full swing and once the script is finalized, they’ll decide when to begin shooting and then start to get a cast and crew together.

In June 2021, Devi clarified her status with WWE. She addressed a report that she had been released and noted that herself and WWE were working on an arrangement that allows her to be home more. She was dealing with family matters and had been recovering from an ACL injury at the time.

WWE CEO Nick Khan confirmed that the company is running an event in India in September.
