** While D.S. Shin of Ring The Belle was speaking to Victoria Crawford a.k.a. Alicia Fox, she reflected on WWE Evolution 2018 where she teamed with Mickie James to face Trish Stratus and Lita. Fox remembers being content with the possibility of that being her last match.
I felt in my heart, like in all honesty, I was like, I hope this is the one to put my hat on (Fox said about the tag match she was in at WWE Evolution). Just to be done with because I mean, it just was the time. It was weird because I didn’t sense that in the beginning of the day. I’m saying in the beginning, walk into the arena that day, preparing for the match, I didn’t feel that until it was right before our match and I think one of the (WWE website) guys asked me and he was like, ‘Are you excited about Evolution?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah.’ I was like, ‘You know, I’m in there and I’m with Trish’ and I’m being reflective and then I started getting emotional. I was very emotional because I was just really wanting to get home, you know what I’m saying? But, more importantly, I was purely in a complete accepting moment as I surprisingly was coming to and I’m like, yeah, this is the top of the cake for me. I just remember feeling like that in that moment being like, this might be my last match and I’m okay with it. Alexa was hurt, I was in there with Trish (Stratus), I was in there with Lita and I was there with Mickie (James). There’s not gonna be another storyline. I’m tired guys, I’m going home (Fox smiled).
** Episode #287 of Sunday Night’s Main Event featured a chat with Ethan Page. He was asked to reflect on memorable moments and matches from his AEW run so far. Page mentioned that he was on the losing end a lot but all the moments he listed are memorable.
Oh jeez, I’ve lost ‘em all so, I would say, I mean wrestling Sting in a tag match for his first match back in an arena. That was definitely a highlight for me (his standout matches & moments in AEW). Wrestling against Jake Hager and Chris Jericho at Grand Slam with over 20,000 fans was definitely one of them. Fans telling me that me getting annihilated in that coffin with Darby (Allin) was one of them and you know what? Another one that really sticks out to me was… oh my God, (Jon) Moxley’s return match. That was huge for me. Just knowing that the company trusted me with that type of match and to be put in that position and wrestling Christian (Cage), one of my favorite wrestlers and again, I lost all of these matches but, they are all very memorable.
The fact that I get to share a locker room with these people is insane to me. Never mind a ring or some very special moments like, we did a New Year’s edition of AEW and I wrestled Cody Rhodes for the TNT Title in the main event of Rampage. That’s a match that I’ll never forget and going in a 20-minute war on Dynamite with Bryan Danielson, again, another match I’ll never forget. Lost ‘em all. But, they are matches that I’ll never forget. They all count. They are in the record books forever. Hamilton’s own Ethan Page has shared the ring with some of the greatest wrestlers of all time, which means I’m one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, right?
Page ran the Alpha-1 Wrestling promotion out of Ontario, Canada. He has not presented a show since 2021 but says another one will happen someday. He joked that AEW will find a way to fire him so then he’ll start running shows again.
Yes (there will be another Alpha-1 Wrestling event). I’ll just blanketly say yes. I don’t know when, I don’t know how, I don’t know where — yeah, it’ll be in Hamilton but, eventually. I promise eventually. I’ve been saying this joke a lot, I’m sure AEW will find a reason to fire me eventually so I’m gonna have to run shows and if I have to run shows, it’ll only be Alpha-1.
** Justin Leeper, AEW Fight Forever’s Lead Narrative Designer guest appeared on the Cultaholic Wrestling podcast. He dove into collaborating with Kenny Omega on the game and said Omega was a dream to work with.
I would say that he (Kenny Omega) was, maybe not in title but spiritually, he was kind of a Creative Director (for AEW Fight Forever) so, he was the one who gave editing passes and approvals to all of the scripts that I wrote and back in the day, WWE would have people who would do that as well but Kenny was a little bit hands-on and even before I joined the project, he and I talked about the kind of games we liked; Persona or Yakuza or all these other games. He’s got a super wealth about knowledge of games. Of course from across the pond as well having spent a lot of time in Japan like I did. But yeah, he’s a very clever person. Of course he knows so much about wrestling that he’s really good at translating that into wrestling games as well but also something that you really want from a client is he knows when to defer, he knows when to go, well I don’t know how this works so you tell me how this works. I have this idea, let’s collaborate and let’s come up with something that fulfills this idea in a way that’s achievable. So he was kind of a dream to work with really. I’ve long admired him as a performer but yeah, to get to know him in a business capacity was another level of respect.
** Blackpool Combat Club’s Wheeler Yuta appeared on the Battleground Podcast and commented on Bryan Danielson wrestling at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door with a fractured right forearm.
Bryan (Danielson) told me one time because we always like to joke that he’s invincible and I think he is and he told me one time that being invincible doesn’t mean that you can’t get hurt, you can’t get injured, that things won’t go wrong. It just means that all that can happen and you’re gonna do it anyways. You’re going to push through and do it anyways and that’s what he did (at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door).
