Danielson wanted the match against Thatcher.

On the lead-up to Bryan Danielson and MJF’s AEW World Championship match at Revolution, Danielson had to win every singles match he was in-in order to secure the title opportunity.

One of his challenges came in the form of Timothy Thatcher and they wrestled on the February 1st episode of Dynamite. It was Thatcher’s AEW debut and he reflected on that while speaking to Sports Illustrated. Thatcher said the opportunity came out of the blue and it happened because Danielson wanted it.

AEW, that was literally out of the blue. It happened because Bryan Danielson wanted to wrestle me. For me, that was reason enough to fly from Tokyo to Dayton, Ohio for a day and back.

Next month, Thatcher will be back in Japan for Pro Wrestling NOAH’s N-1 Victory tournament. It kicks off August 6th and Thatcher is in the A block.
