A date is set for the release of the film.
As the NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 Kickoff show was underway, it was revealed that a movie about Antonio Inoki was in development. It is now official that the film about Inoki is coming out October 6th.
The movie is going to hit TOHO Cinemas Hibiya in Tokyo and there will be other roadshow theatrical releases. It’ll be distributed worldwide by GAGA Corporation.
NJPW Chairman Naoki Sugabayashi issued the following statement about the film:
For more than 10 years, the relationship between the founder and Chairman Antonio Inoki and New Japan Pro-Wrestling had been broken. However, during that time, the respect for the creator of the organization that advocated the Strong Style has continued uninterrupted, not only from former members of the organization who had contact with him, but also from the generation that did not know him directly, including Kazuchika Okada. The distance between the two groups gradually narrowed before the 50th anniversary of New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
Unfortunately, the dream of having Inoki step into the ring with New Japan Pro-Wrestling again did not come true, but the film about Antonio Inoki is the filial piety from the current New Japan Pro-Wrestling, and at the same time, it is an expression of the Inoki-ism that still lives on as the original landscape of the organization. Please come and see it with your own eyes.
