WWE touts success of shows in Mexico

WWE is touting the success of its weekend events in Mexico – setting attendance and gate records for the company in the country.

WWE announced on Monday that they set records for the highest attendance and largest-grossing events they have staged in Mexico, breaking previous marks set in 2011.

The event in Mexico City also broke venue records, becoming the highest attendance and highest grossing event ever held at the Arena Ciudad de México, in addition to setting a record for highest-ever WWE merchandise sales in Mexico City.

WWE ran a live event at Arena Ciudad in Mexico City on Saturday headlined by Roman Reigns defeating Rey Mysterio in the main event. Sunday’s show in Monterrey with Seth Rollins over Dominik Mysterio as the headliner.

In 2011, WWE toured Mexico in May and October. The spring tour consisted of four events including a May 13 show at the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City with a listed attendance of 19,900. WWE returned in October for eight shows including episodes of Raw and SmackDown from Palacio de los Deportes.
