The lawsuit has been voluntarily dropped without prejudice.
In April of 2023, former WWE writer Britney Abrahams filed a civil suit against WWE regarding her treatment while she was employed and her exit from the company.
On Wednesday, August 17th, Abrahams voluntarily dismissed her lawsuit without prejudice against named defendants in the suit. WWE itself is not part of the dismissal. ‘Without prejudice’ allows for Abrahams to revisit the lawsuit against the named defendants.
Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics asked Derek Sells, the lawyer representing Abrahams, if the filing means the case is being settled and he did not comment.
The initial suit lists claims of discriminatory treatment, harassment, hostile work environment, wrongful termination and unlawful retaliation due to Abrahams’ race, color and gender. Abrahams was one of few Black writers on staff.
Stephanie McMahon, Vince McMahon, Ryan Callahan, Mike Heller, Christine Lubrano, Jennifer Pepperman and Chris Dunn are the individuals listed in the dismissal.
One of the issues that Abrahams cited was dialogue written for multi-time WWE Women’s Champion Bianca Belair that was offensive and stereotyped dark-skinned Black women. There was also a storyline idea for Aliyah, man.soor and Angel Garza. man.soor and Garza would fight over Aliyah and part of the story would include that man.soor has a secret. The suit alleged that writer Ryan Callahan threw out the idea that the secret was man.soor was behind the 9/11 attacks.
