New Japan Pro-Wrestling, CMLL and Major League Wrestling have formed a ‘strategic alliance’ to unite for crossover collaborations, starting in October.
MLW CEO Court Bauer spoke more about the alliance when he appeared on Wrestling Observer Live. Bauer stated that it was put together over the summer.
We’ve been working on this one all summer long (Bauer said about NJPW-MLW-CMLL alliance) and it’s been such a privilege to work with New Japan and their whole team and CMLL, the oldest promotion in the history of wrestling going back to 1933 and it’s been a real privilege working with Mr. Lutteroth, who is the descendant of Salvador Lutteroth, who kind of invented lucha libre when he went across the border to Texas and saw American wrestling and then brought it back and his whole story is fascinating and now, Salvador Lutteroth III, he’s running CMLL and it’s a real honor to work with him.
At MLW’s Slaughterhouse event on October 14th, Jacob Fatu is scheduled to go one-on-one with Minoru Suzuki. In addition to that crossover collaboration, Bauer revealed that a CMLL Title is going to be defended at Slaughterhouse.

To close out the conversation, Bauer was asked if there was pressure from NJPW to work with CMLL, seeing as how MLW had been working with AAA. He said there was no pressure from NJPW. Bauer stated that MLW needed a better partner in Mexico than what they were experiencing and CMLL checked all the boxes.
No, absolutely not (there was no pressure from NJPW to work with CMLL)… We needed a better partnership in Mexico than what we were experiencing and CMLL, that’s it. They check off all the boxes for us.
