Eddy Only opens up about health troubles that have kept him out of the ring since 2022

He spoke candidly about his health troubles.

For five years, Eddy Only has been wrestling. He is often associated with his time as a part of the 44OH! stable with Rickey Shane Page, Atticus Cogar, Eric Ryan, Bobby Beverly and Gregory Iron.

Only has not wrestled since November 2022 and he joined his former partner Gregory Iron’s podcast to explain why. He spoke candidly about the health troubles he’s dealt with. Only knew something was wrong when he lost a total of 30 pounds within a short time span. He also assumed he had a hemorrhoid because when he used the bathroom, there would be a lot of blood.

He went to get checked out and doctors discovered that he had an abscess in his body that Only said was the size of a softball. Only was holding two gallons worth of infection. When the abscess was cut out, surgeons saw that Only had a tumor. This past August, Only found out that the tumor was benign, meaning it will not spread and is non-progressive.

Only then learned that he had Crohn’s disease which is where the weight loss was coming from. He underwent surgery, but thinks the surgery did not go well so he went to another hospital to get a second opinion. His cut is still as open as it was when the surgery took place.

Things got a little crazy. So I kind of started feeling like sh*t when I came back from Los Angeles. I wrestled in Hollywood. I wrestled Rob Shit at one of those Circle 6 — what are those called? The brawl and blood shows, and I figured, I was like, I don’t know, we wrestled on the floor in a bar. I wrestled Rob Shit. I don’t know. Maybe I just feel like crap because of that… I stepped on the scale and at the time, I was like probably 205 pounds and I stepped on the scale and I was at 188. I was like, ‘That’s kind of a jump,’ and I usually only weigh myself once a week so then I weighed myself again a week after and I was down to 172 pounds. Yeah, within a 13, 14-day thing. So I was like, ‘That seems a little weird.’ So I went in, I thought I had a hemorrhoid honestly because every time I would go to the bathroom, there was a ton of blood.

Went in, addressed what the issue was and they’re like, ‘Oh yeah, that’s what it sounds like. Weight loss, we don’t know.’ I had did a CAT scan, it came back. They’re like, ‘Okay, we’re gonna send you home’ and I was like, ‘Okay, cool’ and they came back with the CAT scan and they’re like, ‘Actually, we need to put you under surgery right now.’ I had an abscess in my body that was about the size of a softball, and I was holding like two gallons worth of infection. Had to drain all that out, cut the abscess out. They cut the abscess out, they found a tumor and I was completely in the blank for about six-to-seven months on what it was. I actually just found out back in August that it’s benign. It’s nothing. Sometimes, I guess we have these things. It can make your weight fluctuate and just kind of mimic the c-word a little bit. I found out that I have Crohn’s. So that’s where all the weight loss was coming from and just real sensitive to use of food and stuff like that so, still healing… He did my surgery. I think he might’ve botched the surgery because I went for a second opinion to a different hospital. So at this moment, my cut that they did is still just as wide open as the day they did the surgery. That is the reason I have not returned to professional wrestling everybody.

When asked if he misses wrestling, Only said ‘yeah’ and ‘no’. He took a brief break in 2022 and thought when he returned, he would have the feeling of how much he missed it, but he said there was a bit of hatred in that mix of feelings.

Yeah (I’ve been missing wrestling). Yeah and no. I felt like, coming back after taking that break, I think I wanted to get a lot more out of it and I thought I was gonna get more of that, ooouuu, I miss this feeling. Then I got a little bit more of the, I f*cking hate this feeling. We’ve (Only & Gregory Iron) had plenty conversations.

Present day, Only is starting to feel normal again. He shared that he had appointments lined up, but was not able to attend them because he does not have insurance.

So, I started going to the Cleveland Clinic. I started at that hospital called Southwest. Cleveland Clinic set me up with a handful of appointments. Unfortunately, I’m an independent contractor so I don’t have insurance. So I had a few appointments, wasn’t able to afford to go to them… But, yeah, as of this, I just kind of have to find foods that I can eat, now having this Crohn’s disease. My little brother has it, so I’d just kind of be like asking him, ‘Hey, what do you stay away from?’ Which is kind of funny because at first, I was like, ‘Oh, maybe I should start eating a little cleaner’ so I was eating all these salads and lettuce is like the last thing in the world you should be eating. So every time I ate it, I was like, ‘Man, I feel like f*cking sh*t.’ I thought salad was supposed to be good for you, and so, as of lately dude, I’ve just been eating a ton of fish and just white rice and vegetables and that’s about it. I’m feeling fine, because I started getting kind of bloated, just because of all the infection and I feel like — I don’t know what it is. I’m not a f*cking nutritionist or anything like that, but whatever I’ve been doing has been pushing out and I’m feeling a bit more like a normal person again, you know?
