Corino speaks about WWE, NWA and New Japan.

The reigning NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion is Colby Corino. He has been in possession of the championship since NWA 75 where he ended Kerry Morton’s title run

Corino returned to the organization at the Crockett Cup pay-per-view. While speaking to WU Online, he confirmed that he is under contract with NWA once again. The conversation started off with Corino being asked about his standing with New Japan Pro-Wrestling after his contract was terminated in 2016 following an overdose.

He thinks New Japan does not want to talk to him, but he did wrestle Rocky Romero recently. Corino shared that when he initially got his deal with New Japan, Rocky vouched for him and when they ran into one another at the show they wrestled on, Corino made sure to apologize. He added that he just wanted to speak to Rocky man-to-man but does not think he’ll be in an NJPW ring anytime soon.

I couldn’t tell you where I stand with them unfortunately. I don’t think they really wanna talk to me all that much right now. But what I can say is that a few weeks ago, I got to wrestle Rocky Romero and for anyone that’s in the know, Rocky Romero is basically the American ambassador for New Japan. He does a lot of the communication and office stuff between them because he’s very trusted by the Japanese office. When I got my deal, he was one of the people that put his name on me and helped me out. So, when I wrestled him, I was able to apologize to him and I was able to try to make those wrongs right and I made it clear that I’m not trying to get a job because I’m not even sure if I can go there. I’m contracted with NWA. But personally, I felt like I wronged him, and I just needed to man-to-man apologize to him, you know? So hopefully there’s no bad blood but, I’m not sure you’ll see Colby Corino in an NJPW ring any time soon, as much as I would love to see that happen.

He was asked if he can see himself landing in IMPACT, WWE or AEW. Corino is not against being in those companies, but feels him and NWA are the perfect fit. Corino thinks him being in WWE is something that’ll happen eventually.

He was supposed to join the company but due to a lengthy background check process in addition to the company’s then-ongoing negotiations with Endeavor, it did not pan out. Corino wants his daughter to see him in action figure form and until NWA can give him that, he thinks his destiny will always be WWE.

I don’t know (if I can see myself being with AEW, IMPACT or WWE). I feel like NWA and Colby Corino go together very well. I feel like every company has their own style and don’t get me wrong, don’t put on the internet that I don’t wanna work for all these companies. But, I think right now, me and NWA are a perfect fit and maybe down the line, I feel like me and WWE eventually, you know? I’m always gonna want an action figure of myself. I’m gonna want to bring my kid down the Walmart toy aisle and she’ll be like, look, that’s daddy right there and until NWA can do that for me, I feel like my destiny might always be with WWE. One day.

Corino is the World Junior Heavyweight Champion but also wants to become NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion. He stated that it’s the title his father Steve Corino held and he cannot go anywhere else until he wins that belt.

Oh, 100 percent (I want to be NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion). That’s the belt my dad held, so I don’t think there’s any doubt in anyone’s mind that that’s where my destiny lies. I can’t go anywhere else until I get the Worlds Heavyweight Championship.

The next title defense for Corino is against Joe Alonzo at NWA Samhain on October 28th. Since winning the title, Corino said he’s had 12 combined defenses across NWA and independent promotions.
