House of Glory’s owner stated that Master P was on board for trying to get CM Punk into the promotion.
The New York-based House of Glory promotion is ran by Brian XL and Amazing Red. The Jobber Tears Podcast invited Brian onto their show for a lengthy discussion about all things House of Glory.
At one point in the interview, Brian brought up the conversations he had with producer, rapper, executive and entrepreneur, Master P, about House of Glory. Back in 2019 when it was revealed that Master P was affiliated with H.O.G., he publicly made comments about wanting CM Punk in the promotion.
Brian states that he told Master P he wanted to bring Punk in and P, real name Percy Miller, was on board. Brian explained to him that Punk leaving wrestling was like Michael Jordan leaving basketball in his prime. That’s why Miller name-dropped Punk publicly, but that was not Brian’s vision for how to go about it. He stated that Miller made those remarks without running it past him.
We had a meeting with Master P and one of the first things I told him, I said, ‘We gotta go get CM Punk.’ I said, ‘Let me tell you something, this man right here’ and the way I explained it and people probably won’t agree with me, but the way I explained it to Master P, I’m like, ‘Look, this dude right now is not signed to nobody and it’s like Michael Jordan being in his prime and leaving basketball.’ I said, ‘That’s Michael Jordan right now in the wrestling world. People wanna see that man…’ He was with it. He was like, ‘Alright, cool.’ If you look at TMZ, I don’t know, he shouted him out. The one thing that I was trying to call Master P because he pronounced his name a little wrong and I’m like, ‘Yo, I don’t wanna do it like that.’ He just started saying things I didn’t agree with it and I was calling him, I’m like, ‘Yo, I didn’t wanna present it like that.’ But I think that was a turn off because I spoke to Mike Johnson from PWInsider and that’s my dude. I knew Mike for a long time and he hit me up, he’s like, ‘Yo B, look, this is the truth’ and he just didn’t present it the way I would have presented it. He did it without telling me. Master P just jumped out the window. But, I knew that CM Punk, people really wanted to see this guy, you know what I mean? And when AEW did that (brought Punk in), I’m like, ‘This is a good thing.’
Elsewhere in the conversation, Brian spoke about the origins of House of Glory. The first concept for it was just the wrestling school and Amazing Red and Joel Maximo of Spanish Announce Table were involved. Brian wanted to remain behind the scenes while Joel and Red were the front men.
Joel had other projects he wanted to work on so then it was just Brian and Red. He added that there’s more details but he’ll save it for a documentary. Brian would later share that Amazing Red never wanted to start running shows. He just wanted it to be a wrestling school. Brian stated that to this day, Red does not like doing shows. Sometimes, he has had to convince Red to wrestle.
I had the money and I had a meeting with (Amazing) Red and Joel Maximo. I don’t know if you remember, from S.A.T., and it’s more deeper than that but I guess one day I’ll get to it. I don’t really tell people this story. But, to make it short, so I had the money and I went to Red and Joel and I basically told them, ‘Look, I got the money. I could invest in it and we could make you guys the faces and obviously I own it with you guys but I wanna be behind the scenes because nobody really knows me, you know what I’m saying? But we could make it like Amazing Red’s school kind of thing’ and then, yeah, we did that and then Joel went his way. Once we started, like two, three months later, Joel decided he didn’t wanna really be involved anymore, because he had other stuff he was working on and then me and Red just kept going and through the grace of God, we’re here man. It blew up. It’s more details in that but I guess I’ll save that for the documentary.
The school (came before the wrestling promotion). Actually, Red didn’t even wanna do the wrestling promotion. He’s still against the shows to this day. Sometimes it’s like I have to really convince him to wrestle sometimes because he likes doing the teaching thing and running stuff but I love both. The shows, I love it. I think that this is what we’re here for. So, that’s all me. He does it. Obviously, when I need advice, I’ll hit him up and he gives me the best… he’s a legend. So I always listen to him so if he has advice, I take it. Or if I can’t figure something out, I’ll hit him up and he’ll give me the — you know what I mean? So we work good together. But he hates the shows.
Brian opened up about the friendship he has with Amazing Red and how it has grown over the years. Brian called Red his brother and said he loves him.
Back in the days when we first started, we all used to travel together. S.A.T., Amazing Red, Joel (Maximo), Kelvin (Ramirez), Chris Divine and Quiet Storm and so we used to always travel together and they took it more serious than I did. I grew up with Kelvin and Joel from SAT. I used to go to school with Kelvin and we was just all wrestling fans so it worked out. But I knew Red. We used to all travel together but we was close, but me and him obviously got more closer because we started doing business together. So I think that through the years, us working together, House of Glory’s been open since December of 2010. Yeah, we been around for a minute so our bond just got closer because at the end of the day, it was just me and him. Obviously business, we always got to message each other, talk to each other, make sure everything is copasetic and stuff so through the years, we just got real close and I love him, he’s my brother. That’s my dude. I’ll do anything for him.
House of Glory primarily runs out of New York, but Brian said him and Red have talked about expanding. They’re considering the idea of running WrestleMania weekend 2024 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Brian added that he’s been in contact with GCW promoter Brett Lauderdale.
Me and (Amazing) Red been talking about that lately. Like should we expand? You know, because we’ve been in New York for so many years. I just love it here. I feel like God blessed us with that venue and I love it where we at and stuff like that and we try to bring wrestling every month to New York. It’s different places and you know, GCW comes every once in a while. New Japan comes (every once in a while), WWE obviously in The Garden but we consistently every month. Why break something that’s been doing so well? But, the conversation been lately to try to travel and maybe do Mania weekend this year for the first time. We never did Mania weekend. Talk about game changer, I’ve been going back and forth with Brett Lauderdale, the owner of GCW…
