UFC star Conor McGregor will not be facing criminal charges over an incident at a Miami Heat game earlier this year.
McGregor was accused of raping a woman inside of a bathroom at the Keseya Center in Miami on June 9, an allegation that McGregor denied at the time. McGregor’s attorney called it “no more than a shakedown” back in June.
TMZ gained access to a closeout memo where prosecutors deemed there was “insufficient evidence” as well as “contradicting and/or no corroborating witnesses” to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that McGregor committed the act he was accused of.
CCTV footage did show McGregor entering the men’s restroom with the woman and being there for about five minutes with the two shown leaving and being spotted together later that night at a club.
An attendant who was stationed inside the restroom was interviewed by prosecutors and stated that he “did not hear any signs of distress or sounds that would corroborate that whatever was occurring was not consensual.”
In the memo obtained by TMZ, it stated that when the woman made her claim against McGregor, she asked the detectives involved if McGregor would like to “settle” or “pay her off” if she opted not to press charges.
McGregor’s attorney Barbara Llanes issued the following statement to TMZ over the closure of the case:
After a thorough investigation, including a review of videos and interviews with eyewitnesses, the authorities have concluded that there is no case to pursue against my client, Conor McGregor.
On behalf of my client, his family, and his fans we are pleased this is now over.
