Tribute to the Troops to air live in SmackDown slot on Dec. 8

WWE’s annual Tribute to the Troops special will air next month as a special edition of Friday Night SmackDown.

The special is set to air live on Friday, December 8 from the Amica Mutal Pavilion in Providence, Rhode Island, and is being presented as a special edition of SmackDown.

WWE conceived the idea in 2003 with the company flying overseas to various military bases to hold shows including ones in Afghanistan and Iraq before moving to domestic events in the U.S. beginning in 2010.

Over the past three years, the Tribute to the Troops has aired on Fox in weekend slots airing around NFL programming.

This year’s show will be the first live edition of Tribute to the Troops.
