Chris Hero recalls thinking he would come back to WWE NXT in 2017 under current name

It wasn’t until he made the appearance that he found out.

In early January of 2017, Chris Hero returned to NXT at a television taping and confronted then-NXT Champion Robert Roode. Hero had been away from the company for four years at that point.

He was under the impression that he would be coming back to NXT as ‘Chris Hero’ opposed to Kassius Ohno. While chatting with Chris Jericho on Talk Is Jericho, Hero shared that he did not know he was going to be billed under the Ohno name until the returned happened in front of the live crowd.

I started back (with WWE) in January 2017 and then I didn’t know until I was going out to make an appearance for the live crowd that I was going to be Kassius Ohno again. I thought I would be Chris Hero and they’re like, ‘Nope! You’re Kassius Ohno.’ I was like, well sh*t.

Hero is back competing in the ring. He’s worked two dates for West Coast Pro Wrestling and plans to continue wrestling for the promotion.

In addition to his in-ring and on-screen matchmaking duties for West Coast, Hero works as a producer for All Elite Wrestling.
