Longtime referee Alfonso ‘Pompin’ Ramírez passes away

Condolences to the family of Alfonso Ramírez.

Longtime pro wrestling referee Alfonso Ramírez Días passed away at the age of 85. The news of his passing was shared by CMLL on their social media platforms. 

Ramírez Días a.k.a. Pompin began refereeing in 1957 while he was a teenager. He regularly officiated matches for Promociones Mora. It was there that Pompin got to referee matches such as Lou Thesz versus Canek for the UWA World Championship. 

Throughout his travels, he shared the ring with the likes of Stan Hansen and André the Giant. 

In the 1980s, he arrived to CMLL. He stepped away from refereeing in 2020 due to health issues after more than 60 years as an official.
