When Hiromu Takahashi offered El Desperado an IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title match for Wrestle Kingdom 18, Desperado had planned to take time off from the ring to undergo eye surgery.
He agreed to the match and underwent successful surgery in November. The championship bout between the two took place at Wrestle Kingdom and Desperado ended Hiromu’s title reign.
It is the third time that Desperado has become IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion.
Prior to his loss, Takahashi had been in possession of the championship since Wrestle Kingdom 17.
