Matt Riddle would still like to wrestle Goldberg, thinks it’d probably be AEW that hosts the match

Matches against Goldberg and Kenny Omega are on Riddle’s radar.

The history between Matt Riddle and WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg is well documented. Riddle was asked about Goldberg as he was doing a virtual signing for Signed By Superstars

He stated that he still would like to wrestle Goldberg and when it comes to where that match would take place, he feels it’d probably be AEW that hosts the match.

You know, I don’t wanna give too much but I personally would love to work William (Goldberg). I think me and Goldberg would be a great match. I think I could get something out of him that people haven’t seen in years and I think it’d be great for business. I know it’d be really great for me, but at the end of the day, you can’t — you know, if he wants to do it, he’ll do it. If he needs to do it, he’ll do it and I mean there’s a couple places we could do that. I would imagine maybe an AEW, maybe a TNA, maybe a New Japan but if it was gonna happen, it’d probably be AEW.

Elsewhere in the signing, Riddle said he’s in no rush to get back to TV wrestling following his release from WWE in September. He added that AEW and TNA Wrestling are not out of the picture, but New Japan is a priority because he’s always wanted to work in Japan.

Yeah (I’d consider going to AEW). Honestly, I feel like a lot of the talent when I got released were gonna try to do that and I kind of wanted to think outside the box and I also wanted to maybe not rush back into doing TV matches again because TV’s a lot different than wrestling on pay-per-view or wrestling on the indies… TNA isn’t out of the picture either, you know? It’s just I know there’s certain things I wanna do and I really wanted to work in Japan and I made that a priority.

Continuing on the AEW front, Riddle expressed interest in sharing the ring with former AEW World Champion Kenny Omega. He’d love to do the match if Omega wants to work with him.

Riddle went on to state that when he thinks of pro wrestling, Kenny Omega comes to mind and added that Omega is on another level.

There’s one person I’ve really been wanting to wrestle for years. One person but I don’t think I’m gonna be able to for at least a little bit of time and that one person is Kenny Omega. I feel like he has the body, the build, the endurance, the conditioning, the skills, the style, the emotion. I mean, I just remember when he was wrestling in New Japan a couple of years ago and he was just crushing it and now he’s in AEW and it’s just, to me, that was the one that got away, and then when I heard he recently has those issues (diverticulitis) like Brock (Lesnar) had, right? And it’s like, I wish him the best, I hope he recovers because — and that’s even if he wants to work with me… To me, he’s on another level. When I think pro wrestling, I think Kenny Omega.

Currently with AEW is Jeff Hardy, who Riddle formed an alliance with on-screen in WWE. Riddle shared that when they were paired together, Jeff was not comfortable with them being called ‘The Hardy Bros’.

And originally, you know who I was supposed to tag with before that (Randy Orton)? Jeff Hardy. We were gonna be The Hardy Bros, and Jeff, I love Jeff, we’ve talked multiple times since. Jeff didn’t feel comfortable with being The Hardy Bros because Hardy Boys and I completely understand too. It’s like, that’s your team and we’re changing two letters. I get it.

At Battle in the Valley on January 13th, Riddle is making his New Japan Pro-Wrestling debut. He’ll be tagging with a mystery partner against TMDK’s Zack Sabre Jr. and Bad Dude Tito.
