J.R. is hoping to be on the call for Sting’s final match.
For the main event of AEW Dynamite ‘Homecoming’, Jim Ross was back at the commentary desk alongside Tony Schiavone and Excalibur. They called the bout that featured Sting and Darby Allin versus Konosuke Takeshita and Powerhouse Hobbs.
J.R. reflected on the night on episode #248 of Grilling J.R. and as the conversation rolled on, he confirmed that his contract with All Elite Wrestling is up on February 14th.
Thompson: Is that the date your contract’s up? On Valentine’s Day?
Ross: Yeah… I hope so, I hope so (it’ll be a good renewal for Tony Khan). I’d like to finish up in AEW. I got to be realistic about things Connie. We talk about these birthdays and I’m the same age as (Nick) Saban and (Bill) Belichick and all these cats… I love working with them.
Earlier in the conversation, Ross expressed that he’d like to be on the call with Tony Schiavone for Sting’s final match at AEW Revolution. He mentioned it to AEW President Tony Khan to which Khan agreed that it makes sense for that to happen.
Ross: Me too, me too (I’m hoping to be on the call with Tony Schiavone for Sting’s final match). I mentioned that to Tony Khan last night. He agreed. It’s only right, it makes sense. I said, you know, ‘God dang, mother nature’s gonna tag in somewhere along the way with two old timers like Schiavone and I.’ We’re both feeling good. I’m feeling better today than I’ve felt in a long time. I still got the wound on my ankle. I’m seeing my doctor on Friday to go over an M.R.I., just to double check I didn’t have any bone disease on my tibia. So, I have a doctor’s appointment on Friday morning to go over all that deal and so, I just had a great night. It was one of those really feel good nights.
After Sting and Darby Allin’s victory, The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) made their returns to television and stared down Allin and Sting.
