Hayes turns on Williams.
The first match of NXT’s Vengeance Day Premium Live Event was the finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. The duo of Bron Breakker and Baron Corbin defeated Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes.
Williams had another opportunity to secure a victory on the night as he was in the main event and would be challenging Ilja Dragunov for the NXT Championship.
Despite his efforts, Williams was not able to become champion and lost the bout. After the match, Carmelo Hayes, who was ringside, consoled Williams and as Williams was about to leave the ring, Hayes went after his knee.
Hayes then took a chair to Williams’ knee multiple times. There was a point during the match when Ilja pushed Hayes and he ran into the same knee that he targeted in his post-match attack.
Dating back to October, there’s been an unsolved mystery about who ambushed Williams before he was supposed to compete for an NXT Title opportunity. Hayes continuously denied that he was involved.
