** Joining the Shining Wizards Wrestling podcast was Boulder of The Iron Savages. He recounted AEW President Tony Khan’s reaction to the crowd at an ROH taping chanting ‘titty city’ in support of Iron Savages. It is a move when one of the Iron Savages tosses the opponent into the other member’s upper torso area. Boulder said Khan was excited when he heard the crowd chanting.
Another time was when we really started doing the ‘titty city’ thing, it was the first time a big ‘titty city’ chant broke out in the crowd and the agent for our match goes, ‘Oh my God, they’re chanting titties.’ We were told this after our match and then Tony (Khan), Tony thought the crowd was chanting ‘meat’. But the agent goes, ‘No. I think they’re chanting titties’ and Tony, he’s like listening more and then he smacks the agent on the shoulder and goes, ‘Oh my God! They’re screaming titties!’
There was a point when Iron Savages were managed by J.T. Davidson in AEW. He shared that Davidson being in that position was recommended by former AEW World Champion MJF. Davidson was called ‘The Iron Manager’ and assumes it was a call from the higher-ups to start calling him and Bronson the Iron Savages. The duo showed up to an AEW Dark taping one day and saw the name listed, but they did not recognize who it was because they had been going by ‘Bear Country’. Boulder added that Davidson had to step away due to health issues.
So actually, when Iron Savages first came along, we were kind of still just doing the same thing as Bear Country but we had a manager. It was… God… Yeah, J.T. Davidson. He came at the recommendation of MJF and his nickname was The Iron Manager so I guess it was an idea by the office that, alright, this is The Iron Manager. We’re gonna call his guys the Iron Savages, and we just showed up to a dark taping one day and we saw ‘Iron Savages’ on the board and we didn’t know who it was, and I’m like, ‘Could that be us? I don’t know. Who are these guys?’ And then we later found out it was us.
Our manager, J.T. Davidson, he was having some pretty serious health issues and he had to step away from wrestling. So when that happened, we were like, ‘Oh, well, okay, what do we do now?’ We were just kind of in limbo for like a month or two and actually, the idea for the gym bro gimmick with the Iron Savages was actually an idea of Q.T. Marshall.
** Guest appearing on the 154th Café De René With René Duprée livestream was P.J. Black. He recounted a scuffle he had with Cody Rhodes when they were both in WWE on an overseas tour. He said Booker T and Mark Henry broke it up.
Me and Cody (Rhodes) back in the day had a little tiff but, it’s nothing serious. He went to creative and we got some storylines kiboshed but I mean, nothing too serious. I think we got into fist fight over it once. We sorted that out real quick. I’m sure he doesn’t even remember that… Story for another day… I got into a little fist fight with Cody in South America and it was Booker T and Mark Henry that pulled us apart… But again, I don’t wanna get into details on that story (he laughed). Nothing serious. It was just a little argument… (Black was asked who got the upper hand in the scuffle) What do you think? Well maybe I’ll tell you a little bit of the story. I thought he was joking at first so he kind of swung and I kind of did this (backed up) and I pushed him away. I’m a fighter for real too so, you know, very quick reaction… I realized he was serious. I was like, oh sh*t, he’s trying to fight me and then I was laughing, laughing and that just pissed him off even more and then by that time, Mark Henry and Booker was there to pull us apart… I don’t know if it was serious, or maybe I just have really quick reactions or maybe he wasn’t serious. Who knows? But I was just like, I’m not gonna get punched in the face.
** There’s a feature on Rhea Ripley in Sunday Times Magazine (via The West Australian) and she stated that her career is heading towards the WWE Hall of Fame.
I’m heading to the Hall of Fame. At the end of the day, Mami’s taking over and she’s going to make history.
