Nearly a week after it was expected that Cody Rhodes would pick his opponent for Wrestlemania 40, the storyline of whether he will “finish the story” continues to be roped along.
Rhodes teased via an Instagram Story on Thursday that he has finally picked his opponent: “I’ve made my decision,” he simply wrote in a post this week.
The common assumption following the Rumble was that Rhodes would challenge Roman Reigns. This would potentially bring his “Finish The Story” plot to a conclusion, returning to Wrestlemania and ending the more than 1,200-day run of Reigns in their second main event meeting.
Rhodes had the choice between facing Seth Rollins or Reigns after winning the Royal Rumble last month. Last Friday on WWE Smackdown, Rhodes seemingly side-stepped a long-awaited rematch against WWE Champion Reigns, bringing out The Rock to do a face-off with the champ instead.
And while some took that as Rhodes officially choosing Rollins over Reigns, nothing has been made official yet.
Rhodes is expected to appear tonight in Las Vegas, Nevada for a Wrestlemania 40 press conference. Reigns, Rollins, and The Rock are also announced for the event, along with Paul Levesque, Bianca Belair, and Rhea Ripley.
