WWE NXT notes: Hayes vs. D’Angelo for Stand & Deliver title shot, Shawn Spears’ return, Roadblock matches

The closing segment of the 2/27 NXT was supposed to be Carmelo Hayes and NXT Champion Ilja Dragunov agreeing to terms for a title match at Roadblock on 3/5. Tony D’Angelo interrupted and expressed that he wants a title shot at Stand & Deliver on April 6th. D’Angelo had already chatted with NXT General Manager Ava and threw out the idea of him versus Carmelo Hayes at Roadblock to determine who challenges Dragunov for the title at Stand & Deliver. There was a dust-up between all three men and Hayes went on to agree to D’Angelo’s match after he put him through a table.

Shawn Spears made his return to WWE and took a chair to the back of Ridge Holland. Spears was interviewed and said he likes Holland, but he’s been lying to himself and that’s why he did what he did. Spears added that he’ll be at Roadblock.

The likes of Cody Rhodes, Sammy Guevara and Spears’ wife, former WWE Women’s and IMPACT Knockouts World Tag Team Champion Cassie Lee reacted to his return.

At Roadblock, Tatum Paxley and NXT Women’s Champion Lyra Valkyria will be challenging The Kabuki Warriors (Kairi Sane & Asuka) for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships. In Valkyria’s in-ring segment, she addressed Shotzi’s ACL injury and wished her well. She added that she owes Shotzi a title shot when she comes back.

There was a vignette that aired and it showed the words ‘see you soon’ carved into sand on a beach. Before the vignette ended, the Roadblock logo was shown.

Adding on to the lineup for Roadblock are the following bouts:

  • Asylum Match: Dijak vs. Joe Gacy
  • NXT Tag Team Championships: Bron Breakker & Baron Corbin (c) vs. Chase University (Andre Chase & Duke Hudson)

After being away for nearly a month, Booker T made his return to commentary alongside Vic Joseph.

The Good Brothers (Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows) scored a win over Edris Enofe and Malik Blade. Post-match, Chase University (Duke Hudson & Andre Chase), Axiom and Nathan Frazer and LWO’s Cruz Del Toro and Joaquin Wilde all took aim at The Good Brothers.

The theme song for NXT Stand & Deliver is ‘Year Of The Vulture’ by The Wonder Years.
