Tanahashi is going to be out from March through early April.

At NJPW The New Beginning in Sapporo, Hiroshi Tanahashi dropped the World Television Championship to Matt Riddle. He suffered an ankle injury during the bout.

That ankle injury is now causing Tanahashi to miss the upcoming New Japan Cup series which begins March 6th and Tanahashi is also off Sakura Genesis on April 6th.

At Sakura Genesis, he was going to be challenging Nic Nemeth for the IWGP Global Championship. Here’s NJPW’s full write-up about Tanahashi being pulled from the events:

Thank you for supporting New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

Following further examination on an ankle injury sustained at New Beginning in Sapporo, Hiroshi Tanahashi will be absent from the New Japan Cup series, as well as Sakura Genesis on April 6 to allow for a full recovery.

His previously announced IWGP Global Championship match will be delayed until a later date to be determined.

We apologize to fans looking forward to seeing Tanahashi wrestle and appreciate your understanding.
