When you have a daredevil like Darby Allin working a match, it might be smart to consider some risk management.
Allin pulled off a violent and arguably scary stunt during Sting’s retirement match at AEW Revolution, jumping off a ladder for a Swanton Bomb and falling through a glass pane that was set up atop six steel chairs. The stunt, which caused Allin to sit out for a large portion of the match, provided a graphic visual as dozens of small cuts from glass shards opened on his back.
AEW was aware that the stunt had the chance of going wrong and planned ahead of time in case of such an event. Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso wrote Wednesday that AEW had a secondary finishing sequence for the match ready in case Allin would have to be removed from the match following the glass moment.
It was also noted that a stunt coordinator helped prepare for the moment.
Since Allin was able to compete following the glass-shattering moment, he made the save for Sting later in the bout by stopping a “TK-Driver” (formerly dubbed the Meltzer Driver) attempt by the Young Bucks. He later hit his classic Coffin Drop move before Sting applied the Scorpion Deathlock for the win.
