Details of how the NWA reality series came to be.
The National Wrestling Alliance is airing their weekly Powerrr show and matches from their special events on the CW app. The partnership officially kicked off in February.
In addition to the in-ring content, there is going to be a reality series that Corgan is pushing out on the CW streaming service. He provided details about it while on Drew Garabo Live. He shared that it’ll show his life within the wrestling and music spaces and his personal life as it relates to his family.
For a year, Corgan turned down the show idea but was talked into it after he was told he’d have control over how the show is presented.
It was definitely a bit of arm-twisting (to get me to film reality series). My partner on the show, who’s a pretty well-known guy in the toy and in the TV space, we had-had a meeting and at the end of the meeting which was extensively to talk about doing some toys for the NWA, he started pitching me the idea of doing a reality show or as they like to say in the biz, an unscripted show… And I said no and I said no for a year and then eventually kind of talked me into it with the idea that I would have control of how it went so, what’s interesting about the show which is coming soon on the CW’s streaming side is that it’s sort of a look between my life in wrestling contracted with my life everywhere else; with my family and obviously The (Smashing) Pumpkins. So, yeah, it’s interesting but it was difficult for me because I’ve been pretty private the last sort of decade or so, after being so open for the first 20 years.
Elsewhere in the conversation, Corgan was asked about the sexual abuse allegations against former WWE and TKO executive Vince McMahon. He stated the following:
You know, it’s such a difficult situation. I don’t know. I don’t really know what to say about it (Vince McMahon allegations). I feel terrible for the people that have been victimized in the situation and… I think it’s easy to sort of make proclamations but I think it’s one of those situations where I almost want to wait to see a complete airing of the facts, and it’s not to say I don’t believe what’s happened… I guess here’s what I’m trying to say because I realize this is a sensitive subject: Wrestling is so hypey that when real things happen in wrestling, it’s hard to talk about them as real but this is obviously a really important thing and something that needs to be talked about with great sensitivity. So it’s hard for me to talk about because I feel I’m almost walking right back into the hype and I don’t want to walk back into the hype.
