Strickland and Moné praised by Jericho.
The latest guest to appear on Gabby AF was the first AEW World Champion Chris Jericho. As the conversation rolled on, Jericho was asked for his thoughts about particular members of the AEW talent roster.
One of those names that came up is Swerve Strickland. Jericho thinks he’ll be World Champion in AEW and it’s just a matter of time before it happens. He added that he thinks Strickland can be a crossover star for the company.
I’m a huge fan of Swerve (Strickland). I think eventually he’ll be our World Champion. I mean, it’s just a matter of time at this point and he’s got the cool factor, he’s new, he’s fresh, he can talk, he looks great. He’s a guy that could be a crossover super-duper star which is I think exactly what AEW needs to go to the next level is someone like Swerve or someone like Will Ospreay that people don’t really know but have the look, they have the uniqueness, they have the charisma and once again, I’m not just talking about inside the ring. I’m talking about outside the ring because that’s what wrestling is.
The newest AEW signee is Mercedes Moné. Jericho weighed in on her arrival and what she adds to the company. Jericho went on to heap praise onto AEW’s women’s division.
She’s (Mercedes Moné) more than just a star in the women’s division. She’s a star overall. She’s got that star quality to where, you know, I don’t even remember her as Sasha Banks anymore. It’s Mercedes Moné which is a much cooler name to me anyways and like I said earlier, when she shows up on an AEW show, it’s like, oh my gosh, she’s here too!? Everybody’s coming to AEW and we have a very talented women’s roster but it’s always good when you can bring in somebody of that level of stardom with that type of experience and star power because you mentioned Deonna (Purrazzo) and Toni (Storm). Britt (Baker) will be coming back soon I’m assuming. Kris Statlander and all these types of girls. Anna Jay is coming into her own, Skye Blue, Julia Hart. That roster — Riho. Every time I see Riho, she’s amazing and there’s a lot of great girls, women in the company so when you see Mercedes come in, you know the matches are gonna get more interesting. The matchups that you can put on pay-per-view and on Dynamite are gonna get even bigger and once again, the star power that she has just takes things to a different level and I’ll say something else too, I know from experience, it’s good when you show up in a new company. It really is. That’s one of the best things about having AEW and WWE being so strong.
Coming up on the 3/20 Dynamite, Jericho is going to be in action in his home country of Canada and he’ll be facing FTW Champion HOOK in singles competition.
Jericho issued the challenge to HOOK after they picked up a win in tag team action at AEW Dynamite: Big Business.
