The idea of McIntyre versus CM Punk at SummerSlam was brought up and McIntyre is game for it.

At WrestleMania 40, Drew McIntyre will have the opportunity to become a three-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion as he challenges Seth Rollins on night two of WrestleMania for the title.

McIntyre secured the opportunity by winning the men’s Elimination Chamber match. Coming out of the bout, he shared that his eardrum was busted and he further expanded on that while speaking to Gorilla Position

McIntyre opened about his pre-existing hearing issues. He visited an ear specialist a year-and-a-half ago and learned that he taught himself how to lip read because of how bad his hearing is.

Physically, I still feel terrible from the (Elimination) Chamber. I took most of the big falls it seemed even though — I guess Randy’s maybe bigger than me these days and (Bobby) Lashley’s jacked but basically the biggest guys somehow ended up taking all the worst falls. Logan (Paul) diving on my face and getting my eardrum perforated so, I’m kind of staring at your lips watching what you’re saying because I found out about a year-and-a-half ago from an ear specialist because I have bad hearing in general that I taught myself to lip read which I had no idea. We did a little test where he was talking, had me put my fingers in my ears where I could still hear him, was telling him what he was saying and he slowly slipped up a piece of paper in front of his face and I was like, ‘I can’t hear what you’re saying. You’ve lowered your voice.’ My wife was like, ‘He hasn’t. He’s the exact same volume.’ He went, ‘Yeah, you’re a smart guy. You just taught yourself to lip read because your hearing is so bad.’ Oh, fantastic. Then it got perforated. So, I won’t say who it was because I don’t want them to feel bad, but it’s very annoying because I can’t hear jack.

Since CM Punk’s return to WWE, McIntyre has not minced words regarding how he feels about Punk. That went to the next level when McIntyre was cited as the reason why Punk tore his triceps in the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble

Present day, McIntyre continues to take jabs at Punk on and off-screen. He looked back at their promo segment from the January 8th Raw and feels he rattled Punk a bit. McIntyre added that Punk came back strong the next time they went back and forth on the microphone.

I mean, you’ve got structure of course (McIntyre said when asked if the verbiage in his segment with CM Punk in early January was pre-planned or off the cuff), an idea of what’s gonna be said but, you gotta go out there, you gotta feel what’s happening in the moment and obviously that’s his forte, he’s a master of it but I think at the same time, perhaps he still saw me, as much as I’m twice the size and twice the experience as I was, he still saw me as that kid and I could see in his eyes, this isn’t the same guy that I was once, you know, around. Never in a promo segment with him. I was never at that level to be in there with him but now, I can see not just what I said but how I said it, the confidence. When he did the Shawn Michaels thing in the corner when I was talking, I was like, alright, and I did it right back to him. I could see it in his face, like, alright, this guy can play chess and I certainly rattled him in that first one and he came back strong in the second one before I dropped his ass and stomped his arm. That first one, I could see it in his eyes, like, this ain’t the same kid I’ve been in the ring with and I know he was a bad guy in the ring back then but, look at him now. Not only can he outtalk me but he’s going to beat the crap out of me and I tore his triceps right off his arm.

The interviewer brought up the idea of McIntyre versus Punk at SummerSlam. McIntyre wants the match, but is worried Punk will get hurt again.

Yeah, I just hope he’s careful (McIntyre said when the host mentioned idea of him versus CM Punk at SummerSlam). Just, I’m worried he’s gonna injure something else during rehab. Man’s made of glass. I want that match, I really want that match. I’m just concerned for him, especially wrestling someone like me. I’m a freaking monster in there. Yeah (I’m desperate for the match), I want that match, yeah, and I got my hands on him and you saw what I did to him at (Royal) Rumble, so that tore him to pieces. I chopped him to bits. Everyone’s like, you know, GUNTHER’s known for his chops because they are violent as hell. I think mine go under the radar a little bit. Put our chops side by side, I’ll show you mine are even more violent. Punk was black and blue, I end up hurting him in there…

The 2024 SummerSlam is taking place on August 3rd from the Cleveland Browns Stadium in Ohio.

On the CM Punk front, he is returning to Monday Night Raw on March 25th in Rosemont, Illinois.
