Rosa Mendes would introduce new character if she returned to wrestling, feels AEW would probably work schedule-wise

Mendes also speaks candidly about her time with Dirty Dango.

It has been six years since Rosa Mendes wrestled. From 2006-2015, she was with WWE and when her time with the company came to an end, she opted to retire but returned to the ring a year later for an independent promotion.

The idea of Mendes getting back into the mix was brought up during a virtual signing with RDP Promotions. Mendes said if she were to come back, she’d do it as a new character that would be similar to ‘Veneer’ from the animated film, ‘Trolls Band Together’. Mendes believes AEW would probably be the best fit schedule-wise.

Okay, so I was gonna go back and then I had this, oh, come back as a babyface, I had this move-set. It was phenomenal (Mendes responded when asked why she retired from wrestling). I was going and I was going over this — because since I was such a — in WWE, I never won and I never did anything. I came back and I wanted to come back as a high-flier and so I was doing really cool head scissors, like move, and I wanted to get it perfect and I couldn’t get it right and then I tore my ACL and then I had surgery and my daughter who was three at the time, she said, ‘Mommy, no more wrestling. No more wrestling,’ and then after that, I couldn’t go back and yes, it’s either her or wrestling. What are you gonna — so, that’s why I retired… Don’t get any ideas everyone (Mendes laughed). She did say it would be cool if you came back as — have you guys seen ‘Trolls Band Together’? Have you seen the heels in that movie? Velvet and Veneer… The thing is it would go with me because the character is everything that goes with what I go against. She’s materialistic, she’s all about money, she’s all about fame so it would be kind of making fun of the old me. But this girl has green hair, so I would have green hair in a ponytail with gold and shoulder pads and I would come back as this money-hungry and basically make fun of that character which is showing people how stupid it is to be all over about money and in the sense, it would be showing a good example of how dumb it is to be like, ‘Oh! I’m so beautiful. Oh! Look at myself’ but in a realistic way, get this over realistically, that would be a really good character and my daughter said, ‘If you come back as her, we can talk.’ So, I’m sure the schedule at WWE wouldn’t work for me but AEW would probably work. But then I’m getting slowly sucked in and it’s scary to me (she laughed). But if I were to come back, I would come back as ‘Veneer’.

During her time in WWE, Mendes was paired with Dirty Dango (Fandango) as his dance partner. She admitted that they did not have personal chemistry and it was like pulling teeth. She added that nothing bad happened between them, but they just did not click.

(Chat user) is reminding me about my dancing with Fandango. That was like pulling teeth. Sorry (she laughed). Yeah (it was a chore), because him and I didn’t — nothing bad to say, but we didn’t have personal chemistry, and we had to make out on camera, like passionately and dance passionately together and… it was, like, not working.

Dirty Dango is currently signed to TNA Wrestling. He re-signed with the company in January 2024
