A recent report has outlined why Joe Gacy’s match against Oba Femi on Tuesday night had a sudden conclusion.

Gacy’s performance with Femi was waved off during this week’s episode of WWE NXT, with the bout being abruptly ruled a no contest. Femi tossed Gacy across the ring in what looked like a routine spot, but it caused the referee to end the bout shortly thereafter.

A report from Fightful Select says that the match was waved off due to concussion concerns. Gacy, who left the ring under his own power, was assessed backstage.

While the report doesn’t make mention of how the assessment went, all signs point to the moment being nothing more than a scare. Later on Tuesday evening, it was announced that Gacy would face Shawn Spears in a grudge match at NXT: Stand and Deliver on Saturday.

Fightful Select reported that some slight changes were made to Tuesday’s show due to the match finish. NXT North American Champion Femi was expected to have an in-ring angle with his Stand and Deliver opponents Dijak and Josh Briggs after the match. Instead, a segment between the trio aired backstage later in the night.

A backstage scene later in the program also showed Gacy asking for a shot against Spears on Saturday.
