Styles was stoked to be in the match.

As WWE WrestleMania 40 inches closer, members of the talent roster are making media appearances and reflecting on their past WrestleMania moments.

One of those media appearances was A.J. Styles on The Ringer Wrestling Show. He spoke about opening WrestleMania 33 in a singles match against Shane McMahon. Styles stated that McMahon was able to get things done for their match that he couldn’t.

But a lot of people look past the Shane McMahon match (at WrestleMania 33) but it was because your expectations for Shane and I were about right here (not high). You had no expectations for it to be great at all. But, Shane McMahon’s work ethic is unbelievable, to the point where he will drive you crazy. I admire that about him though.

I was stoked to be in that match, I was happy. Listen, I can’t say enough good things about Shane. He was really good to me and the great thing about Shane was he was able to get things done that I wouldn’t have been able to get done. So, being in the ring with Shane definitely helped me.

McMahon made his return to WWE at WrestleMania 39 for an impromptu match versus The Miz. Early in the bout, McMahon went down with torn quad

Styles is scheduled for singles action at WrestleMania 40 night two where he’ll be facing L.A. Knight.
