Sheamus recently said he thought he might have to retire while working to get back into the ring.

“The Celtic Warrior” made his return to the ring on Monday night, overcoming Ivar with a quick singles performance. The victory was his first match in months, coming back for the first time since last September, when news broke that he suffered a shoulder injury. His previous match was a mid-August bout against Edge.

The 46-year-old WWE talent talked about his road to recovery on social media recently.

“The road back to the ring is slow, rough and unimaginally painful,” he wrote. “2 months ago I thought I was hanging up my boots for good but a lot of doctors, trainers and physios helped get me cleared to do what I love.. Fight.”

It is unclear what will be next for Sheamus following his return. He was previously in a faction, The Brawling Brutes, although the trio with Ridge Holland and Butch split up during his time outside of the ring. Sheamus came back sporting a Venum-designed in-ring outfit on Monday and had his old “Written In My Face” theme as the entrance music.
