WWE Raw notes: Backlash kickoff, Awesome Truth retain titles, Bronson Reed takes out Zayn & Gable

WWE’s next Premium Live Event is Backlash from Lyon, France. Prior to the 5/3 Friday Night SmackDown in the country, there is going to be a kickoff event featuring A.J. Styles, Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque and Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. It’ll begin at 10 AM EST and will stream on Peacock and WWE’s digital platforms. Hosting the event will be Michael Cole and Pat McAfee. 

Awesome Truth (The Miz & R-Truth) successfully defended their World Tag Team Titles against Alpha Academy’s Otis and Akira Tozawa. 

There was an Intercontinental Championship match between Sami Zayn and Bronson Reed. Prior to the match, the champion Sami Zayn dropped Chad Gable backstage. Gable made his way into the ring and took out Zayn. Due to his interference, Zayn retained but Bronson went after both men. 

As Jey Uso was doing an interview with Cathy Kelley, Dominik Mysterio could be seen in the background following Liv Morgan. Morgan picked up a singles win over Nia Jax. Jax was distracted by Naomi and Tiffany Stratton who were brawling ringside. 

Prior to the show, Joey Borgonzi and Kansas City Chiefs offensive linemen Creed Humphrey and Trey Smith appeared. All three survived the the Super Bowl LVIII parade shooting in Kansas City, Missouri. 

Ricochet conducted an interview with filmmaker and stuntman David Leitch to promote ‘The Fall Guy’ movie.
