Former World Heavyweight Champion Drew McIntyre is happy with where he’s at.

For weeks, many wondered what McIntyre would do once his WWE deal came to a close. Would he immediately sign a new agreement, or possibly test the waters of free agency?

This week, news broke that McIntyre landed a new deal with the wrestling promotion, allowing him to stay in the job he has held since 2017.

In an interview on the Pat McAfee show this week, McIntyre said that he wasn’t ever planning on going elsewhere.

“I’m staying with WWE for the foreseeable future,” McIntyre said. “I wasn’t going anywhere, for anybody out there who was unsure, reading internet rumors or whatever. We were just in a place where I just had to get things right for my family. I got with Nick Khan, I got with Triple H, [and] they were so understanding. And we got things right for the future. Drew McIntyre was never going to go away from WWE.”

McIntyre was congratulated on the new deal earlier this week by The Rock, who sent a sword to him during a meal with WWE’s Nick Khan.

When discussing his new deal, McIntyre wanted to inspire others. He mentioned that he had to briefly depart WWE in the 2010s before finding his way back into the promotion and putting himself in a position he is satisfied with.

“You gotta keep fighting, you gotta keep pushing forward,” he said. “Leave no stone unturned. Put the work in. Be accountable to the person in the mirror. You can do freakin’ anything, I’ve done it time and time again. This is the most recent incident of it.
