A rough past month for Drew McIntyre just continues to get worse.

Drew McIntyre was scheduled to begin his 2024 King of the Ring run this Monday with a match against Judgement Day’s Finn Balor. However, general manager Adam Pearce announced just hours before the event that medical issues had taken him off the card, and subsequently “pulled” him from the singles tournament.

“Drew McIntyre is not medically able to compete tonight,” he said in a social media post. “That’s right, Drew McIntyre [is] medically disqualified from competition tonight here in Hartford. As a result, he will be pulled from the King of the Ring tournament. More news as it becomes available.”

A match against Balor would have given McIntyre the chance to earn his first win since dropping the WWE World Heavyweight Championship to Damian Priest at Wrestlemania 40.

McIntyre’s last TV appearance was a #1 contenders match that happened one night after Wrestlemania, where CM Punk cost him the match and allowed Jey Uso to get the win. McIntyre appeared four times during WWE’s recent UK tour, losing in singles bouts to Uso.

WWE has kept things ambiguous about what will happen with Balor now that McIntyre is out of the tournament. We’ll soon learn who, if anyone, Balor will have to face to get into the bracket’s next round.
