One of AEW’s top names recently discussed the meaningful role that Will Washington plays in the promotion’s on-screen product.

In an interview with Uproxx that was released this week, AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland described the importance of Washington, who is the promotion’s “Wrestling Administration Coordinator.”

“[Washington is] very good at understanding,” Strickland told Raj Prashad of Uproxx. “Wrestlers, we have weak spots and blind spots that we don’t see. And it’s his job to point those out to make sure that we don’t make mistakes because of those blind spots and those weak spots, and he’s very good at pointing those out to me, so I’m not my own worst enemy.”

Washington has played a role backstage in AEW since joining the promotion roughly a year ago. He works with talent, alongside Tony Khan and the rest of the promotion’s creative team. He was hired in 2023 after an extensive career in podcasting, critiquing wrestling through platforms like Fightful and Grapsody.

Later in the interview, Strickland also offered praise for Dustin Rhodes, who he notably faced in a pay-per-view singles match last year. When discussing Rhodes, Strickland said “he’s catching certain things that a lot of people don’t see, which is a magical thing. That’s someone that you want in your corner. That’s someone that you want to receive guidance from.”

During the interview, Strickland revealed that a documentary on him is currently in the works. He says that filming started late last year around when AEW hosted “Worlds End,” but didn’t mention whether it’s still being filmed or when it could be released.

Strickland also talked about his rise in AEW, what he thinks his title win means for the promotion, and more. You can read the full story here.
