The third-ever Forbidden Door pay-per-view event might have more promotions involved than just AEW and NJPW. A Fightful Select report, which lists Rocky Romero as a source, says that STARDOM and CMLL could be involved in this year’s event.
According to Romero, Joshi promotion STARDOM is “definitely” going to be in the mix, and CMLL is “very likely” as well.
AEW and NJPW debuted Forbidden Door in 2022 as an event centered around the two promotions coming together and creating dream matchups. The third edition of the event is scheduled to take place on July 30 from the UBS Arena in Long Island, New York. No pairings have been announced for the card thus far, although it is currently being billed, like the previous events, as an AEW and NJPW-promoted show.
AEW has utilized CMLL and STARDOM talent frequently as of late.
STARDOM’s Mina Shirakawa has been involved in a TV angle with Mariah May and Toni Storm, competing a few times on recent episodes of Dynamite. Many other STARDOM talents have appeared on AEW and ROH programming. This year’s Supercard of Honor lineup included a six-woman tag match featuring talent from the Japanese promotion.
Earlier this year, AEW’s Blackpool Combat Club faction had a feud with CMLL talents. This involved matches on AEW shows and CMLL events in Mexico.
